In short: Industrial hemp is grown with very low levels of THC, in line with legal limits. Here we explain the difference between hemp and marijuana, what THC and CBD are, and how legal limits work ā as general information.
Hemp vs marijuana
Both come from the Cannabis plant, but industrial hemp is bred to contain only very low levels of THC, the psychoactive cannabinoid. Marijuana varieties contain much higher THC. Hemp used for wellness products and food is the low-THC type.
THC and CBD
- THC is the psychoactive cannabinoid, strictly limited by law in hemp products.
- CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid and does not cause intoxication.
- Full-spectrum hemp extracts contain CBD along with other compounds, with THC kept below the legal limit.
Legal limits and lab testing
Reputable hemp products state their cannabinoid content and confirm, through laboratory analysis, that the THC content is below the legally permitted limit. Transparent labelling and testing are signs of a quality product.
Important notice
Hemp products are wellness products and are not medicines. They are not intended to diagnose, prevent, treat or alleviate any disease or health condition. For health questions, please consult a doctor.
